Sunclipse, a site-specific installation created for Pfluger Circle on the Butler Trail, formally and metaphorically integrates the elements of Austin’s sky, land, and water. Oriented due south and suspended off-center within the site's helixing ramp, the work's appearance is dynamic, shifting in response to the viewer's location, prevailing weather conditions, and the time of day.
The installation is characterized by a suspended color gradient reflective of Austin's vibrant sunset—featuring purples, lilacs, oranges, and amber—which pays homage to the city's “Violet Crown” as it is reflected across the lake and the Downtown skyline. Through its rounded geometry and bold hues, Sunclipse serves as a celebration of one of Austin's communal evening rituals of gathering and embracing nature.
Sunclipse will be on view for the TEMPO on the Trail 2025-2026 Cycle.
